Tomkins
So, a few rumours in the morning papers that our favourite ex manager is planning a raid on West Ham to bring James Tomkins to Wearside.

So, assuming there is an element of truth to this what do we think is a realistic price?

English, good age, lots of experience, and Sunderland are desperate. £15m?

I doubt he would want to go there even if the club allowed him a transfer?

Re: Tomkins

He requested a transfer a few times under Allardyce I heard.

Re: Tomkins
Money talks - if he's on £35k at West Ham and Allardyce / his mate Curtis can get him £55k at Sunderland, he'll be there like a shot.

I expect they've got some pretty big earners at Sunderland. Johnson / Defoe / Rodwell / Borini etc would all be on over £50k a week I expect. Don't think they'd be afraid to invest if the right player came along.

Re: Tomkins
Yes I can see him leaving a progressive club in the lovely South to join a backward club in the shitty North of England.

Re: Tomkins
He wouldn't go there in January if they're still in trouble. In the summer maybe.

Firstly I wouldn't want us to sell him and secondly, not to that cunt.

i-ron

and yet signed a new contract under Allardyce earlier this year?

I would say maybe he knew he was going but his agent is Curtis

Re: Tomkins
Even with Man City's millions, they've shown how hard it is to get a decent defender, so I'd rather keep him thanks very much.

Tomkins will feel good being rated above O'Shea and Wes Brown.

Re: Tomkins
I'd say there is more chance of Collins going.

Tomkins doesn't like Sam so why would he choose to play for him again after not liking it when he was hear.

Collins and his pitching wedge feet is exactly what Sam loves

£25 million.

Then it's a test of Tomkins' (and agents') mind.

Does he want to emulate Bobby Moore or Gary Breen?

Sunderland have every chance of "doing a Leeds". Need a miracle.

"Does he want to emulate Bobby Moore or Gary Breen?"

Bobby Moore? The England Captaining, World Cup winning, 544 appearance for West Ham Bobby Moore?

However tinted your claret and blue spectacles are, I don't think Tomkins and his 10 England U21 caps would ever be considered as having emulated Bobby Moore!

Eggbert Nobacon 3:34 Mon Oct 12
Re: Tomkins
yeah slightly over the top there geoff

I rate Tomkins but he's 27 soon so the chances of him going on and emulating Moore are about as remote as you like

Allardyce did a lot for his Career but the word is he doesn't like him.

Re: Tomkins
The only reason he might go there is if he thinks he will get little time on the pitch but with injuries and the rotation of a squad, he will get plenty of time. I also think Bilic has seen enough of him now to know he is a better defender (more disciplined defensively) than Jenkinson at right back for some games and besides Jenks is a loan player so he needs bacl up there too.

Absolutely no chance of him going to Sunderland unless silly money is offered in the 15 - 20 million range IMHO.

He's a Essex boy too and enjoys his lattes in Costa Coffee in Shenfield too much and his night on the lash in Brentwood,

Silly media speculation which makes up 99% of all stories anyway.

Re: Tomkins
>>> Allardyce did a lot for his Career

I think Tomkins career stalled under Allardyce, particularly after Collins came in.

I don't really see why Allardyce would want him now, or why Tomkins would or should want to play more under him - as a ball-playing centre-back he isn't particularly suited to the Allardyce style.
